Golden Bears/Berkeley Gymnastics for the Club of the Year

I am honored to nominate Golden Bears/Berkeley Gymnastics for the Club of the Year award.

In its final year, the program stood as a powerful testament to resilience—facing uncertainty and change, yet continuing to show up each day with the same passion, professionalism, and commitment that have defined it for over 60 years.

This nomination recognizes far more than a single season of success; it celebrates decades of impact within the NorCal gymnastics community. For generations, this program has been a cornerstone for athletes, families, and coaches, creating opportunities for growth, confidence, and excellence in the sport.

Even in the face of significant challenges, including the gradual dismantling of the program by the University, Berkeley Gymnastics continued to persevere. The resilience of this community has been remarkable. At its peak, the program served over 1,200 students each week and employed more than 75 coaches. Even more meaningful is the longevity and loyalty of its staff, with many coaches dedicating close to a decade of their careers to this program.

What makes this program truly exceptional is the sheer number of athletes and coaches who have come through its doors and contributed to its success. Generations of gymnasts have developed not only their skills, but their confidence, discipline, and love for the sport within this program. Likewise, countless coaches have grown as professionals here, many starting as athletes themselves and returning to give back. This continuity created a culture that was deeply rooted, values-driven, and built to last.

That foundation was never more evident than in the program’s final year. Despite uncertainty and challenges, the staff continued to show up with unwavering commitment, giving their absolute best to the athletes and to each other. That dedication culminated in Berkeley Gymnastics earning Xcel Perpetual Trophy once again, a powerful reflection of the strength, consistency, and excellence that had been built over decades. It was not just a win for that season, but a testament to the years of foundation that made it possible.

The success of Berkeley Gymnastics has always been about more than results—it has been about people. The relationships built, the standards upheld, and the collective pride in the program created something truly special.

It is with great respect and appreciation that I submit this nomination in recognition of a program that has given so much to so many.

Airborne Gymnastics

Airborne Gymnastics is honored to be considered for Club of the Year, representing a program built on sustained excellence, community commitment, and a deep respect for the values of Northern California gymnastics. During the 2025–2026 season, Airborne achieved one of its most meaningful accomplishments—earning the Perpetual Trophy, a testament to the collective strength and consistency of its entire program across all levels. In addition, Airborne was proud to be named State Team Champions at Levels 5, 6, 8, and 9, reflecting both the depth and quality of its athletes and coaching. This season was particularly impactful as Airborne welcomed three new coaches into the program. Their seamless integration, alongside a strong and experienced compulsory staff, contributed to a collaborative environment that elevated the entire team. The success seen this year is not only measured in results, but in the unified culture that continues to support athlete development at every stage. Beyond competition, Airborne Gymnastics remains deeply committed to its community. The program’s annual Family Giving Tree fundraiser reached its highest level of success this year, providing meaningful support to families in need. This initiative reflects Airborne’s belief that success extends beyond the gym and into making a positive difference in the lives of others. Additionally, Airborne actively participates in local events, including the Santa Clara community holiday parade, helping to promote the sport of gymnastics and foster community connection. Airborne Gymnastics consistently participates in and supports all Northern California events, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and integrity. Coaches and athletes alike uphold the standards set forth by the NorCal Women’s Gymnastics Association, contributing positively to the competitive environment and the broader gymnastics community. Through competitive achievement, strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to community and sport, Airborne Gymnastics exemplifies what it means to be a Club of the Year.
