Nico Torres Labarca (Berkeley Youth Gymnastics)

I am proud to nominate Nico Torres Labarca for Choreographer of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contribution to gymnastics in Northern California through excellence in competition, creativity, and professionalism.

Nico’s choreography consistently demonstrates a high standard of excellence, with many of his athletes earning floor scores of 9.5+ throughout the competitive season. Beyond the scores, his routines are known for captivating audiences — they are dynamic, intentional, and leave a lasting impression. His work reflects not only technical precision, but a deep understanding of performance quality at the highest level.

A defining strength of Nico’s choreography is his ability to create routines that embody the essence of each individual athlete. Every routine is thoughtfully constructed to highlight the gymnast’s personality, strengths, and style, while maintaining seamless flow and strong composition throughout. His work is both technically sound and artistically elevated.

Nico continuously pushes the boundaries of creativity by stepping outside of his comfort zone and exploring unique concepts, music styles, and movement quality. He personally edits all of his music, sourcing distinctive selections that set his routines apart and elevate the overall performance. His originality and innovation have made him highly sought after, with numerous gyms across the Bay Area requesting his choreography year after year.

In addition to his creative excellence, Nico exemplifies professionalism and sportsmanship in alignment with the USA Gymnastics Code of Ethics and NCWGA standards. His long-standing impact, consistency, and reputation make him exceptionally deserving of this recognition.

Jamie Donkin (Tumble Time Gymnastics)

Jamie Donkin has been choreographing for many years. She is able to pull out the style that fits the athlete best in all forms of music. And not just for kids that know how to dance, but she is able to choreograph for those gymnasts that dance is not necessarily their things. Bringing their personality to the music and then to the floor out in front of the judges. She wants the athletes to not only do well, but to entertain as well, all while showcasing their best gymnastics skills!

Siobana Lei Baker (Ultimate Sports Conection)

I am thrilled to nominate Siobana Lei Baker affectionately known as Chevy, for Choreographer of the Year. Chevy is a highly respected figure in both the dance and gymnastics communities.

Chevy is an extraordinary young woman with a remarkable ability to seamlessly align music and choreography with an athlete's personality. She is passionate about helping performers shine and takes joy in witnessing their success. Her quick wit and humor are integral to her choreography sessions, making the experience enjoyable and unique.

Chevy began choreographing her own routines at the age of three and started assisting others by the age of six. At just four years old, she performed her first public routine, which she choreographed, as the opening act for three-time Olympian Shannon Miller in Hawaii in 1997. Chevy was a versatile athlete, excelling in various sports while maintaining a strong focus on academics, extracurricular activities, and her large, diverse family.

Some of Chevy's notable achievements include:

  • Competing as a Level 9 gymnast and placing  on Floor at Westerns.
  • Choreographing gymnastics routines for over 18 years for several Bay Area clubs, including Levels 2 through 10,
  • Mastering multiple dance styles such as Swing, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Latin, and winning awards in each.
  • Collaborating with internationally renowned choreographers in various dance styles.
  • Teaching Swing Dancing alongside her brother Rome and choreographing at his Dance Academy.
  • Teaching dance for the past 18 years.
  • Contributing choreography to the Saber Kittens, the cheerleading team for the San Jose Arena football team.

Chevy has also appeared on the reality show "The Willis Clan" and "Good Morning America." Currently, she is choreographing for StarStruck Theatre, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching youth and the community through theater arts education and performance.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Chevy is a devoted mother to two wonderful children, balancing her career and family life with grace and dedication. She values life, God, family, and friends, recognizing these as the true essentials of life. Her talents make her a standout nominee for this prestigious award.

Molly Aguilar (Pacific Flips)

Molly has choreographed our routines at Pacific Flips for years. This year she had a baby but still came in and helped put together some of our routines. Judges have complimented her Level 2 and 3 routines and even thanked us for how well put together it was. She's not full time at my gym anymore but she's family and I've always thought it would be nice if she were recognized for her choreography!

Elke Williams (Airborne Gymnastics)

It is with great enthusiasm and respect that we nominate Elke Williams for Northern California’s Choreographer of the Year. In her first year within the Northern California gymnastics community, Elke has made an immediate and lasting impact through her exceptional creativity, technical excellence, and transformative influence on athletes and coaches alike.

At Airborne Gymnastics, Elke serves as the lead choreographer for over 33 competitive gymnasts ranging from Level 8 through the Hopes level. She is responsible for the development of many floor and beam routines, where her work consistently reflects originality, musicality, and a refined technical foundation rooted in ballet. Her choreography is not only visually compelling, but deeply intentional—designed to teach athletes how to move with purpose, confidence, and expression.

One of Elke’s most remarkable contributions is her ability to develop artistry in young athletes. Through her structured, ballet-based approach, gymnasts are taught not only choreography, but how to emote, connect, and perform. She has created an environment where expression is encouraged, celebrated, and normalized—removing the discomfort that often surrounds performance and replacing it with confidence and pride.

Beyond her direct work with athletes, Elke plays a vital leadership role within the coaching staff. She inspires other coaches and has elevated the overall standard of choreography within our Northern California community.

Elke Williams embodies the spirit of this award, and we are proud to nominate her for Northern California Choreographer of the Year.

Sam Hosten

Sam would be very embarrassed if she knew I was nominating her.  She started choreographing a a few years ago and was very nervous.  She has quickly become an amazing choreographer.  Not only is her choreography nice, but her athletes really perform. She is able to bring out a performance quality in her athletes that I don't see from many other gyms.
