NGA Coach of the Year Spring 2026
Nominations
Katelyn Hummel
I would like to
nominate Katelyn Hummel for NGA Coach of the Year. She is always
at all of the extra events, learning for her team so they can be
the best that they can be. She also has numerous Seniors
every year in her Platinum and Diamond groups. If you can keep
so many seniors year after year, I know that there is something
special with you as a coach. Not only this, but she is
always helpful and courteous at competitions, as well as her
gymnasts. She is teaching them how to interact with others in a
sportsmanlike manner by example. Her gymnasts all seem to have
a special bond to her as well.
Zach John (Pacific Flips)
I nominate Zach because of the amazing things
he has been able to do with the levels he coaches at just 20
years old. He came to us as an ex-Level 6 gymnast at just 17
years old and when one of our lead coaches left, we threw him on
our highest level to help spot some of the bigger skills. He
took to it like a fish to water and started doing research to
learn how to coach those levels even better. Every day he works,
he goes in early and gets on GymNeo (online training) and
studies different videos on how to train the girls to get skills
that no one in our gym has ever done. We now have girls
twisting, doing giants, flipping vaults (still spotted) and
winning team banners. He has had no senior coach or mentor in
our gym as I am a preschool brained coach. He's also cautious
and doesn't have girls "chuck" anything, safety first minded and
I'm always impressed on how well the girls listen and respect
him when he is only a few years older than them.
Mackenzie Lynn
(Santa Rosa Gymnastics)
Mack is in her second
year of coaching Levels 6–9 and does a truly outstanding job
with our team. She brings an incredible amount of positive
energy to every practice, and even when she is sick or tired,
she never lets it show. Mack is proactive and intentional in her
coaching, thoughtfully planning specific workouts and drills
tailored to each gymnast on the team. She consistently
goes the extra mile for her athletes—offering pep talks when
needed and teach supporting their mental health through fun
games and meaningful circle-time discussions. Her weekly lesson
plans are creative and engaging, making each week feel special
and ensuring that no gymnast feels left out or bored. Mack has a
strong knowledge of gymnastics and works hard to expand that
knowledge every day by asking questions, researching rules and
techniques, and exploring different ways to teach skills
effectively. The gymnasts respond extremely well to her.
Although she is a younger coach at just 20 years old, she can
spot high level skills and is truly an old soul who reads
situations well and acts with maturity and care. That is a skill
you simply cannot teach. I highly and wholeheartedly recommend
Mackenzie Lynn for this award.
