Help Annette Rivera of Planet Gymnastics Fight Her Battle w/ Brain Cancer

Please help Annette Rivera fight and WIN her battle with stage 4 brain and lung cancer. She is an amazing friend, sister, cousin, and aunt. Annette is a coach at Planet Gymnastics and an active member in her church and community. She is a blessing and a light to everyone she interacts with.

3 years ago she fought and won her battle with breast cancer. Last week, she found out the cancer came back in her brain and lungs. There are two masses in her brain. The one on the right side, which is effecting her mobility, is the size of a golf ball. There is another mass on her left side, but it is much smaller.

San Jose Selected to Host 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials
for Women's Gymnastics

SAN JOSE, Calif., December 4, 2014 – – USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee announced today that the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for women's gymnastics have been awarded to San Jose, Calif.  The event will be conducted at SAP Center at San Jose, site of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, and will be held July 8 & 10, 2016.  The men's event has been awarded to St. Louis, Mo.

"San Jose has been a valuable partner for many great moments over the past 10 years and their commitment to the highest level of success for the 2016 Olympic Trials is undeniable," said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “It is a true community effort and this has been reflected at every moment of their desire to see the trials return to the Bay Area.”

The trials and nationals for men's and women's gymnastics are being held separately to accommodate the differences in scheduling needed to properly identify and prepare athletes for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

San Jose is hosting its second consecutive U.S. Olympic Trials.  Competition for the women's trials is slated for July 8 and July 10 and ticketing and session times will be announced in 2015.  However, fans can secure a seat now by placing a 25% deposit to reserve an all-session ticket package atsanjose2016.com or calling (408) 999-5760.  Gymnastics clubs will have the opportunity to purchase discounted all-session tickets through the Gym Club ticket program which will kick off in early 2015.  Also, the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show will be staged at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in conjunction with the trials.

"We are delighted that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee will be bringing the U.S. Olympic Team Trials back to San Jose in 2016," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed.  Mayor-elect Sam Liccardo added, "We are honored to, once again, be hosting such a prestigious national sporting event in our city. We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the country to enjoy all that San Jose has to offer while celebrating the selection of our nation’s women’s Olympic gymnastics team. ”

"We are pleased that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee recognized the hard work that went into hosting the Olympic Trials at SAP Center at San Jose in 2012 and ultimately the success of the event in this market," said Jim Goddard, Executive Vice President of Business & Venue Operations at SAP Center.  “We look forward to duplicating that success in 2016.

In addition to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for gymnastics, San Jose has hosted the 2007 Visa Championships (now known as the P&G Championships), the 2008 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships, 2009 U.S. Trampoline and Tumbling Junior Olympic Championships, the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials for rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline, and post-Olympic gymnastics tour stops.

"For each of the athletes competing at the event, the Olympic Trials represent the culmination of many years of hard work, training, and sacrifice," said Patricia Ernstrom, Executive Director of the San Jose Sports Authority.  "It is our priority to ensure that each of these athletes has an excellent and memorable experience when coming to San Jose to compete for a spot on the 2016 Olympic Team.”

The local organizers are the San Jose Sports Authority and SAP Center at San Jose.
