I (Sherri McGue) am forwarding a poem written by my daughter Caitlyn, 13, after the tragic accident. She is a member of USAEG and was devastated, as were they all.

A Poem for Kristina

You were so sweet.
You were so kind.
Why did you have to go and leave us all behind?
You left here to quickly for us.
We all wish we could see you smiling, once again, at us.
Your smile was so beautiful, your laughter so sweet.
You always had a good attitude in the agony of defeat.
We wish we could see you pole vault one more time
Before you had to go and leave us all behind.
Our hearts are broken like never before
Because you had to leave to fight in God's war.
This may have been His will but it hurts none the less
And you've left us all here in such a mess.
We wish we could pick ourselves up, get on with our lives
But because you aren't here nothing feels quite right.
Everyone loved you a lot.
How could they not?
Yet you had to leave us here when the weather was hot.
The day was the tenth, the month was July,
When you went to your eternal resting home up in the sky.
We all cried a lot on that unfortunate day
And I hope the moron who hit you severely pays.
He cost you your life, I wish you weren't dead.
You didn't even get a chance to be wed.
Your life was so short.
You were only eighteen.
I wish that you could come back and fulfill your dreams.
You always lived up to your full potential
And always made everyone feel so special.
You helped me build up a little self confidence
And always made me feel like I had someone to confide in.
Your words were full of kindness, your heart full of love,
It pains me to know that you're now up above.
We wish we could understand why God took you from us.
The fact that we can't know kind of seems unjust.
If it's God's will though it's not to be questioned.
I hope that you're happy up there in Heaven.
I wish the jerk that hit you had died instead.
But now we have to deal with the fact that your dead.
It hurts so much to know that you're gone
And to know that I'll never again hear you sing a song.
I wish it could've been different, that you could have stayed
But I guess it wasn't God's plan on that unfortunate day.
Oh what a surprise when we all heard the news,
All we could think was, "This can't be true."
Now all we think and say is,
"We will always love you and miss you and think about you  every day!"
